We introduced Angel's Kiss Alpaca Yarn in 2009, offering worsted and bulky weights. These have become our "workhorse" yarns. These yarns are a blend of 60% alpaca fleece, all bought from small breeders in the USA and 40% merino wool. We chose this blend so that our yarn would have greater versatility for the needleworker, yet retain the hallmark softness of alpaca. We raise suri alpacas and so use suri fleece in the yarn. Suri fleece is as lustrous as silk and adds a lovely dimension to the yarn.
For the fall of 2010, we have introduced three truly elegant, pure alpaca yarns, Heavenly, Lustrous Lace, and Lustrous Sport, which we have created in our own cottage-industry-sized spinning mill. We intend to create new blends of luxury fibers each year. Our first three exotic yarns are:
Heavenly: 100 % alpaca (suri/huacaya blend) -- a 2-ply fingering weight yarn, 350 yds in 3.5 oz. skeins.
This yarn is available in natural ivory and any of our palette of colors.
Lustrous Lace: 100% suri alpaca -- an exquisite 2-ply laceweight yarn, 620 yds. in 3.5 oz. skeins.
This yarn is available in natural ivory and, soon, in natural black, as well as in our palette of colors.
Because of suri's luster, the dyed skeins look extraordinary and feel soooo soft.
Lustrous Sport: 100% suri alpaca -- a 2-ply sportweight, 270 yds. in 3.5 oz. skeins,
tightly spun to avoid shedding and to provide structure to the 100% suri yarn--in spite of the extra twist, it has retained its lovely softness.
This yarn also is available in natural ivory and in any of our palette of colors.
The luster of the suri makes the dyed and undyed yarn look stunning.
Angel's Kiss Alpaca Yarn is made with only US alpaca fleece. We sort and scour the fleece at our workshop in Wisconsin, using only environmentally-friendly products, and either spin it at our own mill or have it spun at a larger mill in the U.S.A.
Angel's Kiss Alpaca Yarn is kettle-dyed at our shop in Wisconsin. We create jewel tones, pastels and deep, rich colors, some with interesting tonal variegations within each skein.
Angel's Kiss Alpaca Yarn is available in our "workhorse yarns:" worsted weight (220 yards/100 grams per skein) and bulky weight (110 yards/100 grams per skein), as well as our new pure alpaca lines pictured above.
